Strad is one of the largest matting suppliers and offers a variety of new and used products for rent, including wood access mats, rig mats and crane mats. In addition to matting, Strad also maintains a large fleet of equipment rentals, including fluid and mud storage, tanks, light towers, generators, pumps, solids control and other auxiliary equipment. THE ROLE Reporting to the Director, Corporate Finance, the Controller has the overall responsibility to work closely with the Operations and Sales Teams to ensure all accounting and operational process-related activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This role is responsible for managing, identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems for the following areas: Revenue and Payables, Payroll, Working Capital Management, Safeguarding of Company Assets, Tax Compliance and Annual Audit. This role is responsible for managing nine direct reports. As the manager of this team, the Controller is responsible for day-to-day people management and creating a high performing, cohesive work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee internal control systems to ensure approval of transactions are in compliance with the Company’s internal control framework.
• Manage tax compliance including completion of annual tax returns and periodic indirect sales tax returns in both Canada and the US.
• Manage all revenue and payable transactions and functions for the company.
• Ensure that effective purchasing policies and procedures are in place to maintain quality standards and control expenditures; make recommendations in respect to purchasing such as approving suppliers, negotiating supplier agreements.
• Participate in the budget and forecast processes as required by Chief Financial Officer.
• Oversee payroll and payroll functions.
• Act as liaison between corporate office and branches providing support on matters such as re-billable invoices, new customer and vendor setups to prevent bottlenecking.
• Oversee cash management to ensure timely collection of receivables and payment of expenses.
• Monitor data and number integrity in asset tracking and accounting systems, while assisting with transactions outside of ordinary course of business.
• Implement, maintain and update the written policies, procedures and processes for the back-office workflow as needed to ensure consistency across the branches.
• Develop Accounting Team by coaching and mentoring employees.
• Conduct training for corporate office and branch locations as required.
• Participate in a variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports in an accurate and timely fashion.
• Periodically travel to operating branches to meet and participate in face-to-face meetings with operations staff; and
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance is required
• CPA designation is required
• 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible accounting management positions is required
• Strong leadership capacity with the ability to foster teamwork.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage stressful situations.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong business and staff management skills.
• A strong relationship builder with the ability to successfully work with cross-functional teams and effectively support operations and sales teams.
• Strong accounting software knowledge desired.

• Oil and gas experience preferred
• Audit management or supervisory experience is an asset.
• Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications.
