Andy Pernal, CA

President & Chief Executive Officer

Andy holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and is a Chartered Accountant with over 15 years of senior financial experience in private and public companies. In June 2012, Andy succeeded Henry van der Sloot into the role of Chief Executive Officer. He started with Strad in 2006 as the Chief Financial Officer until the spring of 2009 when he was promoted to the position of President of Strad Energy Services and became a member of the Strad board.

Prior to joining Strad, Andy held positions as Chief Financial Officer of Stone Creek Properties and Chief Financial Officer of Craig Media. He spent 8 years with Moffat Communications in Winnipeg in various senior financial capacities including Chief Financial Officer prior to its sale to Shaw Communications in 2001. Andy was also Vice President, Finance of MTS Communications (Manitoba Telecom’s largest operating subsidiary). Prior to his experience in industry, Andy spent 9 years in public accounting primarily with Deloitte & Touche in Winnipeg.

Andy has also been involved with various community and charitable organizations including Christ the King School in Winnipeg, Western Canada Aviation Museum and the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba. Currently, Andy is on the board of Clear Water Academy, a private school in Calgary.

Greg Duerr, CA, CBV

Chief Financial Officer

Greg holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Great Distinction) degree from the University of Saskatchewan, and is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator.

Greg joined Strad's Executive team in spring 2012 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Strad, Greg served as Vice President and Treasurer of CCS (now known as Tervita), along with other senior roles since 2008. He was actively involved in strategic planning, risk management, capital markets, and business development. Greg's expertise in finance and accounting also stems from the various senior leadership roles he held at PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in the Financial Advisory Services group, of which, he last held the position of Vice President - Valuations and Strategic Advisory, where he gained valuable experience in restructuring and transaction support.

Greg is an active member in the community through several youth sports programs.

Chris Gindl, BA

Vice President, Corporate Development

Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Calgary and has over 12 years of combined capital markets and oilfield services experience. Prior to joining Strad, Chris was the Managing Director of the Investment Banking - Oilfield Services Division at AltaCorp Capital from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, Chris was VP of Corporate Development at Tarpon Energy Services, a private Calgary based oilfield service company, from 2008 to 2010. Chris's other oilfield experience stems from roles in capital markets oilfield research at Precision Drilling. Chris also led the start-up and management of an oilfield services industrial coating service business in Ecuador from 2001 to 2004.

Chris is very involved with his young family and an active member of their community.

Shane Hopkie, BA

Senior Vice President, Strad Energy Services Canada

Shane holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Manitoba and has over 20 years experience as a leader in successful organizations. 

Prior to moving into the oil and gas industry, Shane spent 13 years in the consumer packaged goods sector working with Nestle and General Mills. In 2007, he changed industries and joined Strad as the Sales & Marketing Manager before being promoted in 2008 to an ever expanding role in operations as a General Manager. By 2011, he was promoted to Vice President of Drilling Services Canada and then promoted again in 2012 to the Senior Vice President role to oversee all of the Canadian operations. With the pattern of being promoted again and again into higher roles and harder challenges, Shane's determination has achieved exponential growth for every business unit and team he has worked with at Strad.

Shane and his family are active members in their community and volunteer with Inn from the Cold and Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Barbara Gutierrez, CPA

Senior Vice President, Finance and Administration, Strad Energy Services USA

Barb holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Denver and is a Certified Public Accountant with over 25 years of broad financial and operational experience working with both public and private companies. With expertise and extensive experience in the management of emerging businesses, Barb joined the team in May 2011 to provide strategic support for Strad USA's high-growth operations.

Over her professional tenure, Barb's responsibilities have included accounting and finance, contract management, corporate governance and compliance, and strategic planning. Prior to joining Strad USA, Barb served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Jones Knowledge Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries in higher education, training and software development for 11 years. Barb has held progressive senior level positions in the healthcare industry with Quovadx, Inc., PhyCor of Denver, Inc. and HealthONE. She started her career at Deloitte and Touche, LLP working predominantly with energy and manufacturing clients.

Barb is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She serves on the School of Accountancy Advisory Board for the University of Denver and is involved in several youth sport and community organizations.

Scott Thetford, BSc.

Vice President, Operations, Strad Energy Services USA

Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University along with Executive Management Certificates from Durham University Business School (DUBS) and the Jones Business School at Rice University.

Scott brings to the Strad team over 30 years of experience across drilling, production, transportation and technology R&D programs. Scott has managed operations in North, Central and South America as well as technology programs both in Europe and the Americas. He has held senior positions with British Gas, GE Oil & Gas, Pipeline Research Council International and most recently the AGR Group - Field Operations where Scott successfully led the development and implementation of European derived solutions into the Americas market.

Scott has served on the Executive Board of the INGAA Foundation, Co-Chaired the ASNT ILI-PQ Committee and has been an active member on a number of industry-government collaborations.
